V-neck dresses are wedding trends we love! A V-neck looks great and fits great with more alterations possibilities then a strapless dress. This style works well for all shapes and sizes too.
The V-neck dresses shown in this article are all photos sent to us by our bridal veil customers, so we made the veil in each photo here. I was surprised to find that many of their dresses have a V-neck.
A V-neck wedding dress has a defined look at the bodice that gives the feeling of confidence and poise. It has a historic look bringing to mind eras long past, love enduring through the ages. That V shape also resembles the lower part of the heart shape, perfect for a wedding.
The V-neck design compliments all body types. For the smaller figure it adds shape and definition at the bust. The V shape design provides room to add padded bra cups if needed. This design is also great for the fuller figure because it provides good coverage and shoulders can be adjusted for support and lift. The V-neck design can cover a supportive bra for hidden lift and shape.
To form the V shape part of the dress has to go over the shoulders. Shoulders are needed to form the legs of the V, but they can be thick or thin. Shoulders help with alterations by providing more ways to make adjustments. Shoulders can be shortened and the bust can be taken in at the side seams.
When shopping for your wedding dress keep in mind the bust in the most common alteration. On most people the shoulders will be too long, that can be fixed. Have someone stand behind you and pinch the shoulders so you can see what the dress is like when it fits. Remember that it can be taken in around the bust if it’s too loose, usually at the side seams. If it’s too tight, there is usually a little extra fabric in the sides seams to let it out. If it doesn’t zip get a bigger size if possible because there is most likely not enough fabric to let out the amount needed. If the situation is that you have to use that dress (gift, no refund or exchange, etc.) and can’t get another size, there is an alteration that can be done to add fabric so it will fit, but it’s more expensive and can be hard to match the fabric.
Even fancy shoulders can be shortened, lace can be moved and beading redone. A professional alterations specialist will have it finished looking like nothing was changed, except it now fits. If the dress has sleeves be prepared should the shoulders need adjusted more then 1/2 inch as that could be expensive or even impossible to fix. It depends on the style of the dress and sleeves, sometimes it’s not a complex alteration.
You will love your V-neck dress once it fits good! It’s a great choice for bridesmaids of all sizes too. The V-neck could also help out the mother-of-the-bride and the mother-of-the-groom. If the shoulders don’t stay in place, especially with the off the shoulder design, fashion tape will keep them in place. Fashion tape is a clear double sided tape designed to stick to skin and fabric. Fashion tape can be purchased from veilsbyroxanne.com, see the Shop link at the top of the page.
Highlight the V-neck wedding dress with a waterfall veil. The waterfall style wedding veil narrows at the bottom giving it the shape of a V. All veils will work, but the waterfall shape is a particularly good match for the V-neck. Also consider a bird cage veil if your V-neck dress is one of the elegant sophisticated designs.
